My pitbull LOVED children. He would run into them, smothering them with kisses. My neighbour kids ruined that.Teasing him and poking him through the fence. He is now scared of kids and reacts with nipping.Parents, kids need to learn that teasing dogs is NEVER allowed. Now, I have to take the responsible step and never let him around children. It's sad to see him now and think of how excited and happy he used to get when he saw kids.Sometimes, it's not even the owner but the community.
My pitbull loves to play with rabbits, cats and even gerbels.Somewhat like http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=m2OC5Z1Fii8 I hate that, especially now, when I am walking my pitbull we get glared at by most of the community.I know a lady who's lab was killed by 2 german shepards and her hands were torn apart as well. Why was that never in the paper?Treat it as a "dog" attack not a "pitbull" attack.ALL dogs are predators.Thats just what they do.All domestic dogs have wild ancestors that are natural hunters and killers.Guess what breed of dog was in Little Rascals with all those kids.A PITBULL
Yes, Pitbull is recognized as a purebreed in the UK&USA but not listed as such with the CKC.Hence the broad scope of using the term "Pitbull".Pitbulls are NOT predatory, nor should they by nature show human agression.ANY dog that does will have life long issues. Please people do your research on the innate characteristics and hardwiring of each and EVERY breed of dog that you all choose to bring home to your families and neighborhoods! Then and only then will we have people who will be responsible through understanding the needs of the breeds they raise.Lets learn to be smarter than our dogs!!
Sorry guys I am not convinced it just the owners. While they most certainly play a part some dogs are just predators and that is what pit bulls are. Nothing can justify this dogs attack on the smaller dog, Pit Bulls are territorial, hunters and apparently killers. I do not believe for a minute the owners trained this dog to hunt and kill other dogs, Like any other breed this type of behavior is part of the dog from birth, these dogs have a propensity to extreme violence. The owner of this dog should punished to the full extent of the law. I feel very sorry for the victim and her dog.
Most of Michael Vick's dogs didn't need any rehabilitation because they weren't human aggressive and there's no indication that this dog is either. It attacked another dog. We don't know why. Was the Shih Tzu snarling at it, like so many small dogs do? Anyway, my point yesterday is that dog fights happen. The liability here lies with the owner who either deliberately or negligently allowed his dog loose. The dog did what dogs do and shouldn't be put down because of it.
