TORONTO - A battered world economy has taken the shine off BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM) as weaker earnings targets and lower subscription expectations suggest the smartphone maker has a real fight on its hands to grow its business.
RIM scaled back its financial projection for the just-completed quarter, saying it's attracting fewer new subscribers than expected and believes revenues and profits will reflect the weakened results.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Certicom Corp. (TSX: CIC), facing a hostile takeover bid by BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM), said Wednesday that it lost US$2.6 million in its most recent quarter, as sales increased 74 per cent.
