The Cultural Centre is awash with
beautiful colours, paintings of botanicals and landscapes and all
in time for this year’s Summer Show.
An exhibition of paintings and other works
will be displayed from July 1-27 featuring works from members of
Strathcona Art Studios and The Mad Hatters organization.
Allan Jensen, gallery curator, says the
Summer Show was simply titled and many artists painted towards the
exhibition this year.
"There is a lot of wonderful pieces in the
show . . . people picked up on the title and I would say 30 per
cent of the works deal with floral subjects," said Jensen.
Many of the works are paintings using
watercolours, oil on canvas and acrylics.
The Summer Show also features some
drawings, etchings, mixed mediums and collage pieces.
"It's all two-dimensional work, so there
are no sculptural pieces or three-dimensional pieces," said
Jensen.
Jensen says there is a nice range of work,
a section of western and agricultural theme pieces anda smattering
of landscapes dealing with the beauty of the prairies.
Jensen agrees it's the perfect time to
exhibit local work, during the summer tourism months with the
Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede just around the corner.
"This is really quite a wonderful show,"
he said. "We're really pleased with it."
A reception will be held Sunday, July 13,
from 2-4 p.m. at the Cultural Centre Gallery.
"It's an ideal time to visit the exhibit
. . . there will be at least one-third if not one-half on the
artists in attendance," said Jensen. "If you have friends in town
this July, bring them to see the show . . . it's nice and cool in
the gallery."
The Cultural Centre is open from 8 a.m. to
8 p.m. this July.
