Thiessen survives scare Print E-mail

Medicine Hat News

It was a close call, but Seven Persons’ Amberly Thiessen will be back next week on Canadian Idol.

Based on viewers’ votes, Thiessen was ranked in the bottom three on last night’s results show. It came as a surprise to the judges, who had called her performance of Bob Marley’s Redemption Song the previous evening “phenomenal.”

However, it was Quebec’s Katherine St-Laurent who was voted off last night. Thiessen and the remaining Top 8 finalists will now be working with former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale to develop acoustic performances for next week’s “Unplugged” episode.

The remaining finalists will also work with accomplished artists, including Bryan Adams, rockers Simple Plan and the legendary Tom Jones.

Young men seem to ahve an edge?
It has occurred to me that a fair chunk of those who participate in the vote on Canadian Idol are pre-adolescent girls. While no one can predict who they support, and phenom young female stars like the young girl who portrays the role of Hannah Montana, have huge popularity because of the young female crowd, I think we are seeing the difficulty even talented female performers are having this season on Idol. Regional strengths also play a role and of course the quality of each performance. Amberly is extremely talented and shines as a role model for young women. Hope she goes far!
