I have to admit that it has been great having Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland back in town again. Holland played goal for the Medicine Hat Tigers from 1974 to 1976, and later lived in the Gas City from 1985 to 1994, when he worked with the Wings scouting staff. Having won four Stanley Cup rings as a member of the Wings management, it would be very easy to come out of that having an inflated ego. With Holland, that is far from the case. Every time I meet with the man or phone him up, the talk starts out as a conversation. Before interviewing him after a round at Desert Blume on Wednesday, we talked about golfing, family, baseball and I ended up telling him a number of stories about the 2006-07 WHL championship Tigers team. Holland is your nice, regular and personable guy. He just has a high profile job. It is great to be able to meet people like Holland and talk like you have known each other all your lives. |
