MARION GROVE
1934 ~ 2008

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Marion Geraldine Grove, beloved wife of Art Grove, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the age of 74 years. Marion was born on May 29, 1934 in Medicine Hat, a daughter to Otto and Mary Johnson. Her life was spent in Medicine Hat where she was raised and educated. Her life was changed on April 5, 1952 when she married Arthur. This date marked the beginning of a successful marriage of 56 years which the family legacy was built upon. Working along side her husband in the family business, Marion managed to balance her life of a business supporter and more importantly, a mother of five children. Her hard work ethic was more than evident as she always conducted herself in a way that demonstrated this quality. Home was where her heart was. She was family oriented and made sure her family was well looked after…simply put, “She was the best Mom in the whole world”. The pride in her family shone through and reflected in the lives of those around her. Marion loved the time she spent with her family and enjoyed some time to play golf with friends. She also enjoyed 17 years of going south to Yuma during the winter months and developed many close friendships there. Mom will be remembered for the tremendous courage she had shown and the level of integrity she maintained during her brief illness. We are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful lady as a part of our lives and will cherish the inspiration she has passed on to each of her family including her husband, Art Grove; five children, Lynanne (Brian) Good of Red Deer, David (Shirley) Grove of Medicine Hat, Terry (Jim) Porter of Medicine Hat, Bob (Linda) Grove of Strathmore and Jim (Pam) Grove of Red Deer; 11 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Deanna (Dave) Ledingham of Ferintosh, AB and Georgina Perrier of Toronto; a brother Randy (Darlene) Johnson of Red Deer as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Mary Johnson; two brothers, Melvin Johnson and Ron Johnson and a sister Marguerite Baumbach. In honour of Marion, a Celebration of her Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W., on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. (Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com) In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Marion’s name may be made directly to the Palliative Care Society, 666 - 5th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6.
