EDNA EMMA ENSLEN
1928-2008
Mrs. Edna Enslen entered her treasured rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, John; her daughter, Lois Irons (Wally) of Cochrane; son, Vernon (Holly) of Medicine Hat; daughter, Marjorie Stevens of Rimby; daughter, Elaine Hendricks (Mark) of Virginia, USA; and son, Larry (Terri) of Medicine Hat; her grandchildren, Steven, Dawn, Simon, Aaron, Carleen, Brennan, Jenae, Brady, and Nicholas and their families; and seven great grandchildren. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Gottlieb and Julianna Weber; brothers, Carl, Ernest, Martin; and grandson, Mitchel. Edna was born on August 17th, 1928 at Endiang, Alberta, growing up on the family farm. In her mid teens, she left Endiang and went to Hanna, working in the hospital there until moving to Calgary where she attended the Berean Bible Institute, graduating in the spring of 1948. She conducted children’s ministries, which included being in charge of the Child for Christ Office in Edmonton. She took nurses’ assistant training and worked in nursing at Medicine Hat. Later she was employed at the glass factory in Redcliff; it was during this time, she met John Enslen and they were married in Medicine Hat on October 7th, 1950. They moved to the farm at Schuler and Edna worked right along side her husband. It was during these years their five children were born. They attended Hilda Baptist Church and she taught their children to love the Lord as she did. After the family moved to Medicine Hat in 1966, she worked at various tasks in different nursing homes. Her favorite place of employment was the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. She spent fifteen enjoyable years working there, primarily as an Operating Room Porter. Following her retirement, John and she moved to Chinook Village and Edna was an active participant in this community which she thoroughly enjoyed, especially the company of family and friends there. She was one of the original four who founded the library at Chinook Village. Edna also loved to walk, collect stamps and was an avid reader. She enjoyed some of the simple pleasures in life like watching birds and viewing flowers, of which roses were her favorite. After several years, osteoporosis began to slow her body down. In spite of the pain and disabling toll this took on her body, Edna always remained positive and up beat and never complained. She was an inspiration to all who loved her and admired her.
