Digging up a portion of Sixth Avenue near Belfast Street on the Southeast Hill, they uncovered a wooden pipe that dates back to when Medicine Hat was a thriving cattle town and railway point in the Northwest Territories.
One year after the Unsightly Property Bylaw was strengthened, city officials are reporting mixed results and are examining legal options to force owners to bring buildings up to snuff, especially in the downtown core.
As Alison McKenzie drove into the area an hour before, she says she saw no sign of the blaze, but while delivering newspapers on foot a short time later she observed a large plume of dark smoke rising from the area.
It was a bittersweet moment for the two frontrunners in the Cypress Medicine Hat race. Wildrose candidate Drew Barnes won but without the Wildrose majority government and PC incumbent Len Mitzel lost his seat even though his party won a large majority.
