The man accused in the sexual assault and first-degree murder of a two-year-old made a brief court appearance Thursday in Medicine Hat.
A Queen’s Bench bail hearing was adjourned for T-jaye William Heller, though, no-contact court orders were issued that bars the 31-year-old from communication with five individuals.
Included in the list are the mother of the dead toddler along with two other family members of the deceased and two Crown witnesses.
Defence lawyer Lyndon Heidinger contested the no-contact order with the mother of the dead boy stating she remains one of the few pillars of support remaining for Heller.
Heller was arrested on June 28 at a city home following a call for assistance from paramedics.
He was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, first-degree murder and interference with human remains two days later.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 19.
A trust fund for the dead two-year-old’s funeral has been set up at the downtown Bank of Montreal with donations also being taken at any of the bank’s other branches in Alberta.
