Hit up gov't employees for OAS, CPP shortfalls

Print PDF
I can't see why the shortfall of money for the near future for the Old Age Pension has to be collected from the overburdened backs of the senior population. Why doesn't the federal government get the money from the people who work at government jobs? Some of them are getting multi-millions in retirement pensions when they leave their cushy jobs.
Why should these government people receive any more pension money than the rest of the Canadian citizens do? Mr. Harper has the making of a great prime minister, but he shouldn't get there onÊthe backs of the seniors or working class citizens. If the government needs money to extend the CPP and the OAS into the future, then it should come from other sources.
If Mr. Harper and his party intend to go through with this plan in the future, he might find himself in trouble, the same way as a former prime minister did a few years before, when he was going to do the same thing.
When I was about 14 years old my dad said to me, "What a great country this democratic Canada was, where all people were treated equally." If you were honest and worked hard you could make a good living for yourself and your family. But if you were too lazy or dumb to be a good farmer or a good labourer or a good businessman you could get a government job and try to stay at it for four or eight or 12 years until you were eligible for a fat pension payment.
Which is the case right now, and I think this should be changed immediately. I could probably go on for another page or so, but time and newspaper print doesn't allow it.
