Medicine Hat News
Some of the best darts players in Alberta were in Medicine Hat recently for one of the sport's bigger tournaments around.
The 43rd annual Western Canadian Open Men's Triples took place at the Royal Canadian Legion, with 23 teams vying for top spot.
Calgarians dominated the A division, with the team of Trevor Hovey, Shaun Narain and someone calling himself Norm the Storm taking first place. They beat out another Calgary-based team (Carl Mercer, Greg Vardy and John Young) and the Lethbridge group of Scott Lee, Greg Lazaruk and Jesse Kramer.
Hometown thrower John McGhee joined up with Ken Woods and Dave Beattie of Calgary to win the B event.
How good were the darts? There were 20 perfect scores, with a high out of 154 registered by Medicine Hat's Scott Collins and a high in of 160 put up by Calgary's Terry Watson.
"There was some excellent games throughout the two days of play," wrote Legion manager Bill Noland in a press release.
