Medicine Hat News
It was a perfect weekend, but it needed a climactic finish.
The TSG Insurance Havoc under-14 ringette team won the Spruce Grove Sweethearts Tournament Sunday with a come-from-behind victory against the Lacombe Rampage.
In the final, Lacombe went up 5-0 but rallied for a 6-5 win, the winning goal scored by Amanda Beaudoin with only three minutes left in the final period.
A quick start to the second frame saw Brooklyn Burzminski and Courtney Stock score in the opening minute. From there it was all Havoc, with goaltender Mishaela Lanigan closing the door, helped by defenceman Dana Blasetti.
The final was a rematch of a 5-2 round robin win by Medicine Hat. Only four teams were entered in the division, but none were slouches. Havoc beat Edmonton Nova 4-1 and tied Spruce Grove Nitro 5-5 earlier in the weekend.
Beaudoin led Havoc with six goals, while another standout performance was a four-point game from Daytona Nieman against Nova.
Under-12
Medicine Hat's Memory Lane Mirage claimed silver in the under-12 division at the Lonnie Krahn Spring Classic in Calgary.
Mirage lost twice to the Airdrie Sting, 6-5 in the round robin and 5-1 in the final, but had little problem in their other contests. A 9-0 shutout of Calgary East Swag featured goaltender Camryn Selwood, while an 11-4 victory over the Indus Lightning ensured they'd be in the final.
Danielle Srubowich had seven goals to lead Medicine Hat's scoring attack through the four games, followed by six from Makayla Stickel and 11 assists from Emily Hudson.
