Medicine Hat News
Eight players were cut by the Medicine Hat Tigers late Wednesday night as they ended their main training camp and headed into the exhibition season.
All but two of the released players were 15 or 16-year-olds, though there are still plenty of youngsters remaining as the 39-man squad heads to Edmonton for exhibition games Sunday and Monday.
Notable among those still in camp are two Hat-born 15-year-olds, Blake Penner and Nathyn Mortlock. Eight 16-year-olds also remain, though Paige Maul — who had three goals in Wednesday’s Black and White game — is not among them.
Four goaltenders survived the cut, with 18-year-old Kenny Cameron and 17-year-old Dawson MacAuley still battling for a backup position behind last year’s tandem of 19-year-old Tyler Bunz and 20-year-old Deven Dubyk.
The team plays the Calgary Hitmen Sunday in Edmonton, then the host Oil Kings on Monday. Their only home exhibition game is next Saturday, Sept. 10 against Lethbridge.
