1916 ~ PICK ~ 2012
Mr. Thomas “Tom” Pick of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Irene Pick, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at the age of 95 years. Tom leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Audry Dickie and Jean Berry, both of Edmonton; sister-in-law, Merle Labs of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was born on March 25th, 1916 in Provost, Alberta and was a long-time resident of Medicine Hat. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene (nee Place). Tom was one of the partners that helped construct the moose statue that still stands in front of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed walking, was very good at building things, and liked to putter around. Interment has taken place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Tom’s memory may be made to Meals on Wheels or to the charity of one’s choice. Mrs. Emma Vollmann of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 at the age of 91 years. 1928 ~ CALLAGHAN ~ 2012
Mr. LeRoy Callaghan, beloved companion of Shirley Gaffney of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at the age of 83 years. LeRoy was predeceased by his wife, Rachel in 1981; two children, Teresa in 1965 and Garry in 2009; and son-in-law, Gordon Andrus in 2005; and his parents, Joseph and Thelma Callaghan. He is survived by his loving companion, Shirley Gaffney; his children, Byron, Bev, Greg, Donna and Harriet; his grandchildren, Ryan (Bev), Craig (Mandy), Mark (Jen), Cody, Justin, Chantal (Cole), Lucus, Jenna (Rory), Tiffany (Derek), and Todd; his great-grandchildren whom held a special place in his heart, Ashton, Rachel and Rylee; as well as his sister, Maxine. LeRoy was born on December 27th, 1928 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, for those of you that don't know where that is it's 6 feet from the Moose's Ass, as grandpa would say. LeRoy enjoyed attending rodeos, playing bridge, curling, golfing, slow pitch, visiting and having a good laugh with friends and family. He was an avid hunter which cultured many friendships from Manitoba to British Columbia that lasted throughout his lifetime. LeRoy was a member of the Golden K. LeRoy had numerous careers, a Realtor in later life and school bus driver for 25 years but his favorite was ranching at Buffalo. His outlook on life was impeccable, always seeing the brighter side. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit. His grandchildren will never forget the lessons he taught especially the key for a great bubble bath. His family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of 2 North at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their great care of LeRoy. The Funeral Service will be held in the GERMAN CANADIAN HARMONY CLUB, 1 - 1st Street SE, Redcliff, on Monday, January 30th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Jacquie Hoare officiating. DORIS G. WEIMER
February 4, 1931 - January 25, 2012
Doris passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the age of 80 years, beloved wife for 35 years of Frank R. Weimer of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory two children, her son, Wayne (Debby) Schmidt, their children, Michael (Natasha) Schmidt and Melanie (Pat) Schmunk; her great grandchildren, Chase, Ryland, Holden, Dayton, Skyler; her son, Terry (Dorothy) Schmidt, his children, Carolynn Schmidt (Doug Corah), Tammy (Stacey) Warriner, Stacey Schmidt (her fiancé Kellan Steinley), and their mother, Elaine Schmidt; Dorothy’s children, Darren (Charlene) Moch and Devon Moch and her daughter-in-law, Jody Moch; her great grandchildren, Payton, Raine, Shelby, Austin and Tyra as well as many nieces and nephews; brothers, Harold (Alice) Beierbach, Art Beierbach and sister-in-law Rose Beierbach as well as her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in the Weimer family. She was predeceased by her father, Albert, her mother, Hulda; one brother Chester; a grandson, Darvin Moch; two nieces, Cheryl Beierbach and Jodi Hilgendorf; and a brother-in-law, Albert Weimer. Doris was born on February 4, 1931 on a farm at Richmound, Saskatchewan where she was raised. At the age of 13 she moved with her family to Medicine Hat. In 1975 she married Frank Weimer. She loved photography and was an avid afternoon bingo player. Doris cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family would like to thank her friend of 78 years Eileen (Roy) Hoffman, and her special friend Yvonne Baker. Also, thank you to the nurses and staff at the Riverview Care Centre. MILDRED HEINZ
1926 ~ 2012
Mrs. Mildred Christina Heinz, beloved wife of the late Mr. Adam Heinz, passed away at the Riverview Care Centre while surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the age of 85 years. Mildred was born in Wybank and raised in Fox Valley. Together with her husband, Adam, they farmed there for a number of years. After moving to Medicine Hat, Mildred started cooking in a number of restaurants for the next 20 - 25 years. She was a great cook and will be fondly remembered by her customers for her awesome cream pies. Besides cooking, Mildred enjoyed singing, dancing, loved entertaining and especially treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her children, Beverley (Adam) Wist, Garry Heinz, Judy Heinz (Dennis Hartman), Mary Anne (Darin) Janzen all of Medicine Hat, nine grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, sisters, Helen Leismeister, Ann (Andy) Volk, Katherine (Clarence) Wendland, Frances (Eric) DeBoer, Irene Hoffner; brother, Valentine (Anne) Hoffner as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Adam Heinz. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., on Monday, January 30, 2012, at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Father Phi Nguyen Celebrant. NELLIS
Mary Doris (Parr) Nellis, 93 years young, passed away in her own home on Thursday, January 26, surrounded by the love of Brenda, Wayne, and Andrea. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Richard (Sandra), Robert (Sheila), and Brenda (Wayne), as well as her six grandchildren, John, Kristy, Aaron (Marianne), Brendan, Patrick, and Andrea, and three granddaughters, Lexi, Lila, and Maelenn.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Jack Nellis, as well as her brothers, Joe, Doug, and Norm Parr.
Mary was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, June 26, 1918. She spent her growing up years in Wilkie Saskatchewan in her family’s department store and bakery. She was a longtime active member of Fifth Avenue United Church. Mary possessed a wonderful sense of humour, a strong faith, and a love of life that inspired all who knew her. She was also a prolific letter writer and kept in touch with many lifelong friends and school mates.
Funeral services to be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, at Fifth Avenue United Church. Arrangements by Saamis.
