Re: Golfers Give to Cause (July 28)
I read with interest this article as I had golfed on Saturday and gladly donated $10 to this very worthy cause (Mercedes Pepper Trust Fund). I was a bit skeptical of this company (Verishot), however, and inquired how much of my money was actually going to this family in need. I was given a wishwashy answer but decided to donate anyway.
Upon reading this article I was extremely disappointed to learn that only $1 of my $10 donation went to this family. Had I known this, I definitely wouldn't have donated through this company.
The three golf courses that took part in this should also take some of the responsiblity. They should make the golfers aware of what percentage of money raised actually goes to worthy causes. If they want to collect 100 per cent for worthy causes, they should place a bucket on the first tee box for donations. I'm sure they would collect many times more than what they collected over these three days, with all of the proceeds going to the charity.

Absolutely disgusting. In effect this company made $9.00 off the death of a child.
Corporate greed hits new lows.
Thanks for the info they are at my golf course all the time doing a hole in one contest for other charities i will not give them a penny more.next time they are there i will express my opinion big time and let others know..if you google there name they are canada wide so who is getting rich here im thinking them and not the charities...last one was for prostate cancer and all 4 of us gave 10.00 so in 5 minutes they made 36.00 and cancer made 4 wow lets put the word out about these guys
i just contacted them and was told ..thats how it is, how are we to make money and pay for staff and equipment.as well when there is a hole in one thats how we pay for it..so when there is a rare hole in one they take what little they give to charity and give to the golfer...and keep the profit to them selves
