The trial of a Medicine Hat vice-principal on charges of sexual assault has begun with the court hearing testimony from the alleged victim Friday morning.
Gregory Fritzke, 44, was charged with the offence in February 2009, however, the court heard the alleged offence occurred during the summer of 2004.
The now 19-year-old woman — who cannot be named by law — testified that she was 14 when during the 2004 summer holiday she was invited to Fritzke home.
The woman said she was invited to the house knowing that the accused man’s wife and children were away and went on to describe being lead into the basement.
“The he took me to the (spare basement) bedroom...we were on the bed,” she testified before tearing up.
“We started to kiss, he was feeling my body, touching me.”
She went on to describe non-intercourse sexual acts between the two.
Under cross-examination, the woman testified to not being forced to engage in the sexual acts and that she had a crush on the man who was her vice-principal the previous school year.
With Fritzke forgoing testifying in his own defence, the only testimony was from the woman.
An adjournment was called shortly before noon for defence and counsel to clarify the charges against Fritzke pertaining to the law as it stood in 2004.
The legal age of sexual consent was raised from 14 to 16 years old in 2008.
